  • A Different Breed of Fundraising

    As many of you long-time readers know, I’m already a big fan of Amra’s and their other establishment, Tobacco Road. This is SUCH a very cool event they’re hosting this week.

    I have some other commitments on Thursday (that post coming soon), but if I’m able to do both, this is totally making my to-do list:

    The charity organization called Wine to Water, as seen on Larry King, raises funds through wine tastings to be able to help 3rd world countries find healthy clean drinking water sources for their villages.

    On Thursday July 23, come to Amra’s after work or around 6:30 to help support this awesome and worthy cause!

    • There will be free wine. (Yes, a full tasting and free full glasses, too.)
    • There will be free light appetizers.
    • There is no cover charge, no ticket price and no suggested donation.
    • There may be a silent auction.
    • There will be friends new and old.
    • The event will last 2 or 3 hours.
    • Stay as long as you’d like.
    • And feel free to bring people with you!

    Wine To Water is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit aid organization focused on providing clean water to needy people around the world. Over 1 billion people in the world today lack access to adequate water and sanitation. We are devoted to fighting this epidemic.Wine symbolizes fortune in our society.   • Growing Up is Getting Old

    Want to know what’s kept me so busy lately? Among other things, helping one of my favorite non-profits put together a FANTASTIC event happening here in Raleigh on May 2nd.

    Here’s the scoop:
    Bring the family out to City Limits Saloon on May 2nd as Brittany’s Battle presents “Boots, Bands & Bulls“, a benefit concert with Kevin Lee, Brian Davis and Arista recording artist Jason Michael Carroll, whose new cd, Growing up is Getting Old, comes out on April 28th!

  • I Don’t Do “Scary”

    “I don’t do ‘scary’.”

    Those were my exact words to my favorite group of hooligans in our weekly “so what are we doing this weekend” group gmail conversation. However, because I’m almost always a good sport (assuming it’s not 7am), I’m still most likely going to do all of the spooky local things that my friends are SO excited about.

    This – the Horrow Show in Snow Camp, NC – terrifies me with the website alone. (My friends and boyfriend are sure going to enjoy watching me jump and scream every 10 seconds.)

    Aside from that show, G105 is also hosting a list of Halloween events in the Triangle. Anything else that should be included? Let me know… my friends will thank you, I’m sure.

    Raleigh Jaycees to Hold Annual Haunted House Oct. 17-Nov. 1; Proceeds to be Donated to Area Charities

    Raleigh, NC – Alert! A prison break has occurred at the old Possum Creek Penitentiary and the escaped living-dead prisoners are being corralled and will be put into a new prison, currently being built at 6234 Glenwood Avenue, at Pleasant Valley Promenade. Tours of this new prison begin on Oct. 17.

    Boo! (See you there – I’ll be the running running back to the safety of the car!)

    Sunday, September 21

    On September 21, 2008, from 4-8pm…The Shops at Seaboard Station, a Gregory & Parker, Inc. Development, will host Down by the Tracks, VII, a fundraiser to benefit the SPCA of Wake County.

    This popular event has become a significant tool for raising money and awareness for the many homeless animals at the SPCA. Last year over 1000 people and 350 dogs attended DBTT VI and helped us raise over $15,000 for the SPCA.

    The outdoor block party is held at Seaboard Station in downtown Raleigh.

    This year’s event will feature live music by Peace Street Band!

    There will be a silent auction, free beer, food vendors, dance lessons, best dressed dog contest, caricaturist and much more. Kids and dogs (leashed) are welcome.

    In order to raise more money for the SPCA, there will be a general admission charge of $5.00, children 12 and under free.

    Cary — Each year, the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic, one of the nation’s premier celebrity golf events, strives to raise money to help find a cure for cancer and change the lives of those facing this terrible disease, but they cannot do it alone; they need your help. The 15th annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic is scheduled for August 10, 2008 at the world famous Pinehurst Resort® in Pinehurst, NC and volunteers are needed in several key areas.

    Volunteers were the center of Jimmy V’s dream when he started The V Foundation. One of his favorite concepts was that ordinary people, working together, are able to achieve extraordinary things. The magical weekend is made possible because of the tireless efforts of more than 1,000 volunteers; ordinary people working with extraordinary passion to make things run smoothly and helping to achieve the goal of finding a cure for cancer.
