  • Introducing: Bay Breeze Retreat

Of the many things Johnnie Nobling and I have ventured into together this year, one of the things I’m most proud of is putting our name a piece of dirt together with a water view. 🏝🏖🌊😎 (As many of y’all know, Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, and Beaufort are our relaxing getaway destinations from Raleighwood.)

August 22-September 1, 2022, we have a little window where it’s not currently rented to others enjoying their own getaway, so if any of you would like to head to the coast for a few days at a special friends and family rate, send me a message before booking and let’s get you on the calendar at Bay Breeze Retreat!

PS: The internet is blazing fast (faster than in Raleigh, actually), so we’ve particularly set this place up as a great work from home spot… don’t be afraid to book a few weekdays!

  • The “Soon-to-be-Famous” Cinnamon Bun at The Banks Grill Deserves All the Fame

The Banks Grill in Morehead City, NC, is a hidden breakfast and lunch gem that we stumbled upon thanks to Yelp.

It’s “Soon-to-be-Famous” Jumbo Cinnamon Roll, covered in ooey, gooey pecan praline sauce is a generous sweet starter that is easily shared by two or more diners and priced less than $4.00.

When it arrived at our table I imagined it being too rich for the two of us to finish, taking half home or later, but it was so light that we devoured it in mere minutes.

Tucked away in the Lowes Foods shopping center on Highway 70 coming into MHC, stop in for breakfast and be sure to order this tasty treat that deserves every bit of fame it’s destined for… Be prepared to wait a few minutes on weekend mornings, though. There’s ample outside seating to enjoy the wait! ?

Opening times vary between 7-7:30 a.m., closing at 2 p.m., Wendesday through Monday. Closed Tuesdays.

  • Summer Favorites: Sun Bum Sunscreen

I first found this line of sun protection products at Topsail Beach a few years ago in a surf shop and am so glad it’s widely available now!

    Sun Bum sunscreen
The Sun Bum sunscreen lotion I use is SPF 30 which helps protect you from the nasty stuff (sunburn, skin cancer) and smells amazing. Very beachy. Goes on smooth and rubs in easily.

What really makes the Sun Bum collection tops on my list is that the products won’t clog your pores and most importantly – are not tested on animals!

You can find the sunscreens in lotion and sprays for about $16.00 – I recommend stocking up toward the end of the summer retail season (now-August) when major retailers discount. Especially if you’re in NC like me and it’ll be sunshiny hot through the first few weeks of October.

PS: This is a non-solicited, non-compensated blog post. But if the fine folks at the Bum wanted to send me some more Sun Bum, I wouldn’t refuse the delivery. ?

  • Salt Water Views

Raleigh, be warned. As much as I miss you, a girl could really get used to waking up near the water. The views on my last few days of runs and walks in Antibes have been too good not to share. These pictures are from the beachfront in Antibes, Fort Carre, and Port Vauban.

  • Royal Wedding?

Move over, William and Kate – this weekend is all about Drew and Brianne!

Another love of my life is marrying the love of her life this weekend and I’m so excited to be making my way to Ocean Isle Beach in just a few short hours (after a Friday morning full of work) for a weekend full of rehearsals, dinner, doing my girlfriend duty once more of lookin’ good in a bridesmaid dress, a ceremony, and a rockin’ coastal reception!

Congrats, Bri and Drew!!! I loooooove you two! :-*

(Yes, B*Money is one of the few people in this world that I’d miss the TBMF for – and yes, I do expect texts, calls, and pictures from those of you dancing on a cooler in a field in Garner on Saturday!)

  • Calling All Fishermen & Fisherwomen!

I say fisherwomen explicitly because I know quite a few of my female readers kick butt and take names when it comes to fishing.

Please consider entering or volunteering with this event to benefit the NC Coastal Land Trust!

Championship to Benefit NC Coastal Land Trust!

Calling all fishermen and women! If you like to fish, enter the Fisherman’s Post NC Flatfish Championship to help fund coastal conservation.

    To volunteer, email volcoordinator@coastallandtrust.org.

    Sounds like a great tourney!

  • Congrats and More…

First things first, I have to say congratulations to Allison Davis, owner of Sandfoot Photography (I highly, HIGHLY recommend her beautiful work), on her engagement this weekend in quite a fabulous fashion!!

Her darling fiancĂ© surprised her with a backstage proposal at the Brad Paisley meet-n-greet in Charlotte… HOW COOL! Check out the picture and a bit of the story online – Brad’s face is priceless as Allison got the surprise of her life! (There is also a great story about how Brad and his team managed to make another young girl’s night very special – he truly makes me very proud to be a Brad fan today.)

Also, a big thank you goes out to Dave and Andy at Deep South the Bar for having Parmalee’s “Carolina” playing on their homepage… I am now ADDICTED to the song and hope that you all will enjoy it as much as I do!

PS – Don’t forget to sign up for your membership and stop in and say hello to the Deep South folks soon, too.

  • Beaufort Water Festival – Part 2

I KNEW there had to be a better website for the Beaufort Water Festival and lo and behold, I’ve found it:

    53rd Annual Beaufort Water Festival

Who in the heck is the previously referenced “Virtual Marketing Concepts” – the company claiming development of the previously referenced site – who built a event marketing-based website that did not even contain the event dates on the main page and included everything else as PDFs? (Business-owners beware… do not give them your money.)

So check it out… and enjoy some good ol’ fashioned Budweiser sponsored events before InBev destroys the American favorite (thanks for the link Lisa S.!).
